Goodstock

Oh no, something went wrong. Please check your network connection and try again.

What is Goodstock?

Goodstock is an online platform: a marketplace where organizations and individuals can rent, sell and buy items and materials used in the creative industries, such as theater, film or events.

Does Goodstock have its own stock or storage?

No. Despite the name, Goodstock doesn’t have its own stock of goods.

Goodstock provides only the platform, in which individuals and organizations can buy, sell and rent items from each other.

In other words, we are a peer-to-peer marketplace.

‎‎I don’t have an account. What can I do at Goodstock?

Everyone can browse and view items on the platform freely.

If you want to buy, sell or rent on the platform then you need to register and create an account.

Does it cost to make an account?

No.

‏‏Does it cost to list an item? Or to reply to a listing?

No.

Well what fees do you charge then?

We charge a 15 % commission fee of every completed transaction made on our platform. That’s it.

Also, through our network of partners, we offer some additional services to help you with your logistics such as transportation, which will cost accordingly.

Please note that VAT will also be added to the prices in case they are subject to the tax in question.

What payment options does your site offer?

You can pay by credit and debit cards. The payments are handled by Stripe.

Or, in listings where the owner’s account has enabled invoicing you can choose an invoice as a payment method.

To receive payments on our platform all accounts must register to Stripe, to ensure safe transactions and trustworthy business with each other.

What is Stripe?

Stripe is an international payment processing platform that lets merchants safely and effectively accept credit and debit card payments.

We use Stripe Connect as the payment service provider, which allows payments to be made via credit card and transferred to the owner's bank account.

Read more about Stripe.

Can I pay and receive payments through the platform?

Yes, all the payments are made using the platform.

The transactions are handled by Stripe.

How do I receive payments?

To receive payments on our platform all users who sell or rent out items must create an account with Stripe in which they register their bank information.

In case you’re using the platform as an organization or a company, creating a Stripe account might take a couple of minutes, because you will need to fill in some information about your organization.

Due to anti-money laundering laws, in some cases, Stripe might ask for more information later. You might need to verify your identity with Stripe, for example, by providing a photo of your ID or passport. This information is stored only within the Stripe service.

But remember, this is only to make the platform and all the transactions safe for all of us. Also, you only have to do it once. And then it’s done!

Do I get a receipt for my purchase?

You sure do! You can download a pdf receipt from your Goodstock inbox.

I want to list an item that will be available in the future. Is it possible?

Yes it is – and we warmly recommend doing so!

Our listings include a scheduling system in which you can let other users know when your item is or will be available in the future. So, you can list the goods for sale or for rent, even during your on-going production or project.

This will also allow more time for customers to find your listing.

How does the rental pricing work?

In every rental listing, you decide a base price, which is the price for a 1–3 day rental.

The base price applies to the whole 3-day period – considered to consist of a pickup day, a usage day, and a return day. This means the price is the same for a one-day rental as it’s for a three-day rental.

Longer rentals will increase the price according to the pricing model below:

1–3 days = base price

4–7 days = base price +10%

8–14 days = base price +25%

15–21 days = base price +40%

22–30 days = base price +50%

Rentals longer than one month are charged the base price + 50% per each month.

For example, if you list a product for rent and insert the base price at 100 €.

4–7 days = 110 €

8–14 days = 125 €

15–21 days = 140 €

22–30 days = 150€

In this case a three-month rental would be 3 x 150€ = 450 €.

If, for some reason the pricing model doesn’t suit your needs, it is also possible to create a custom pricing model. However this requires some coding, so we primarily offer this service for a fee. You can ask more by emailing us at: info (at) goodstock.fi

How are the transportations handled?

By default the customer is expected to pick up the item from the owner. But obviously the owner and the customer can decide and agree on specific logistics and arrangements between themselves using the platform’s inbox feature.

Also, we might be able to offer help with transportation, setup, temporary storage or product modifications, as additional services through our partners.

For more information about specific additional services, contact us at info (at) goodstock.fi.

Why are some listings shown with + VAT 25.5 % and some are + VAT 0 %?

The VAT (value-added tax) will be added to the final price as shown on the listing.

On our platform you can do business either as an organization or as an individual. The tax percentage depends solely on who is selling or renting out the item.

The general rule of thumb is: if a business or an organization sells or rents anything, it’s subject to VAT, and Finnish VAT 25.5 % will be applied.

If a private individual sells or rents out a used item, it is not subject to VAT. Hence, VAT 0 %.

For companies, in some situations, the rules might differ. So, if you are not sure about the regulations regarding your listings we advise you to consult a tax specialist and contact us if needed.

Can your platform provide an Excel or CSV report?

Yes, we can provide you with an Excel or CSV report. For this, please send an email to the address: admin (at) goodstock.fi.

In the message please tell us what kind of report you need, for what listings and for what time period. Provide also your account’s user email. We will reply by sending the report in a few days.

Goodstock is currently operating in Finland. Why is the site in English and not in Finnish?

We are glad you asked, as we are actually working on it!

We hope to be able to publish a new update in the near months, which would give users the option to switch the site’s language to Finnish.

But English will always be available too, as many of our colleagues in the creative industries use English as their working language. Also, there are quite a lot of international productions being done in Finland, for which we hope our platform will be a great asset.

Not to mention our future plans to expand abroad and to connect creatives across the borders.

Is it possible to post a listing anywhere outside Finland?

At the moment our platform operates in Finland and the VAT setup is valid only for Finland-based customers.

In case you have any thoughts or ideas, or you think your area would be a good place for Goodstock to expand to, please let us know at info (at) goodstock.fi, we are eager to hear you out.

We definitely hope to be coming your way soon!

Who is responsible if something goes wrong?

As Goodstock provides only the platform for peer-to-peer business, the responsible parties are solely the listing’s owner and the customer, ie. buyer or user.

Before doing business in Goodstock, please make sure you read our Terms of service – and thoroughly acknowledge your responsibilities as a user.

But, as the title promises, the answers to the most frequent questions can be found below:

  • The owner is responsible for ensuring that the items being sold or rented match the listing in terms of condition, usability, and other characteristics.

  • The logistics will be agreed by the parties involved.

  • The customer is responsible for paying the sale price or rental fee and covering any additional costs related to the use of the item.

  • If the customer damages the item during a rental period, the customer is responsible for compensating the owner for the damage or acquiring a replacement item as agreed between the parties.

  • The owner and customer are responsible for insuring the item as appropriate for their respective activities unless otherwise agreed.

  • For clarification, Goodstock is not responsible for insuring the items.

  • The owner and the customer are also responsible for fulfilling their tax obligations accordingly. The VAT will be added automatically by the platform, based on the information the owner has provided in their account information and in the listing.

  • In case of disputes, Finnish law will be applied.

My production ended and I have custom made items I’d like to rent out or sell. Is it okay for someone else to reuse custom made materials in different productions?

Good question!

If you’re listing a custom made item, please be sure that all the copyrights of the item and production in question are respected accordingly.

If you’re purchasing or renting a custom made item: please understand that if a costume or prop or set element is unique and custom made for a specific production, say a film, it’s generally assumed the item will be remodified before using it in a different project. Everyone surely would like their own production to be unique, right?

Please also remember that Goodstock provides only the platform and the responsible parties are always the users who are selling, buying and renting from each other.

But, as long as you respect the craft, respect the art forms and respect each other, you will be good. And, respect the law, obviously.
